Harare — Tired of being sidelined from the mainstream arts scene, diverse budding art groups from Chitungwiza will on Saturday host a variety arts festival dubbed "To be Seen is to be Heard" at the Young Africa Skills Centre.
Taona Marufu of View House Arts Project, who is co-ordinating the event, said the festival was a platform for budding artistes to showcase their talents."What we are offering them is the platform to perform in front of the people who would give them support, be it financial, technical or any other form of support.
"We hope to expose and link the artistes with big names in the industry," he said. Some of the young talent to look forward to include dub poet "State Witness", whose thoughtful verse and lyrics have endeared him to audiences whenever he performs, Mbira Dzenheketo, hip hop dude J. Marf T, solo actress Rosemary Moyo and Roflex Dance Squad, among others.Lampstand Arts Stable from Waterfalls will also show what they made of. "Gospoetry" exponent Ignatius Tirivangani Mabasa makes his maiden appearance at the gig when he performs as guest artiste together with inimitable musician and dancer Hosiah Chipanga.
Mabasa will no doubt impress, if the success of his album Yadhakwa is anything to go by. Chipanga, on the other hand, has never disappointed and his popular "Kwachu Kwachu" dance and song are known to mesmerise audiences.
Nama-award winning visual artiste Whitecliff Mponda will also exhibit some of his works during the festival that will feature the Girl Child Arts Club.House of Hope, a trust based in Hillside is sponsoring the festival.
