Examinations in the institution officially began last Monday February 25, 2008.

Fears that the first semester examinations of the 2007/2008 academic year of the University of Yaounde 1, Ngoa-Ekele, will not take place due to the recent strike action in the country have been dispelled. The atmosphere in the campus of the University as at now is calm. Yesterday, one could see students grouped in small study groups in some strategic corners in the campus. Some of the amphitheatres were exceptionally full. Silence was the watchword. It is but normal. Examinations are on.

One of the students Maggi M. first year student in the Faculty of Arts Letters and Social Sciences told Cameroon Tribune that her wish is that she writes her exams peacefully. "We have worked for the examination. All we need is to validate our results," she said. Some of the students said the exams are going on without any problems.

Examinations at the University of Yaounde 1 and all the higher institutions of learning in the university officially began last Monday, February 25. The examinations were later suspended due to the strike action by transporters. Following the call off of the strike action last week, the university authorities have decided to continue with examinations in the university and all other institutions of the university. A new timetable has thus been drawn up for the examination.

An order from the Rector of the University, Dr. Mrs Dorothy Limunga Njeuma informed the students of the new date of the examination and called on them to consult the revised examination time-tables in their various faculties and schools. Students of the Faculty of Arts Letters and Social Sciences began writing yesterday and will end on March 11. The Faculty of Sciences is expected to begin on March 13. According to a source at the university, the students were expected to be on mid-semester break at this time of the year. "Students were supposed to be expecting their results by the 15th of this month and then resume classes on the 17th. But the whole programme has to be reprogrammed," the source said.
