The International Republican Institute (IRI) -Liberia has ended a one-day roundtable discussion aimed at strengthening political parties in the country.

The forum was held on Friday, February 29, 2008 in the Auditorium of the University of Liberia (UL) on Capitol Hill. It brought together officials of political parties and their elected legislators in the government.

Topics discussed include "The Nature of Politics in Liberia, Structure of Political Parties and Management, the Role of Political Parties as Constructive Opposition", among others.

Some of the speakers at the forum were former Speaker of Interim National Assembly (INA), Morris Dukuly, and Professor Alaric Tokpa of the Department of Political Science, University of Liberia.

In his opening remarks, IRI-Liberia Country Director, Monte Mcmurchy, told political parties leaders that the roundtable discussion was intended to build a an atmosphere of momentum among political parties in engaging issues constructively.

He called on leaders to follow the line of constructive partnership in building a democratic nation.
