This is because problems in Africa always come from badly organised elections".

After the audience, he told journalists that, "The Prime Minister sensitised us about the importance of ELECAM and more importantly about the maximum seriousness on the selection of ELECAM Board members whose integrity, impartiality and honesty should assure Cameroonians". Bello Bouba justified the attributes with the argument that, " in a country like ours, free and fair election is the perquisite not only for a successful electoral process but also for maintaining peace, stability". Dr Adamou Ndam Njoya whose Cameroon Democratic Union (CDU) has four seats in the National Assembly was already at the Star Building. Meanwhile Hon. Jean Jacques Ekindi, the lone Member of Parliament of his Progressive Movement (MP) set the ball rolling for the consultations.
Leaders of Cameroon's civil society organisations have also been making their proposals with regard to the selection of ELECAM Board members. The Chairman of the Chamber of Agriculture, Fandjo Samuel used the audience to remind the Head of Government that farmers represent a greater percentage of Cameroon's population. The Chamber of Agriculture, he said, "is the National Assembly of farmers". As such, he proposed to the Prime Minister that farmers should be represented in the ELECAM board.
The Honorary President of the Movement of Entrepreneurs, James Onobiono on his part proposed that ELECAM board members should not be political activists. According to Mr Onobiono, the board members should be people of integrity, and have a sound academic and intellectual background, ready to work for the interest of Cameroon. The President of the National Chamber of Bailiffs, Dimene Yomba, said ELECAM board members selected from all the ten provinces of the country, should be competent, morally and intellectually upright.
