Cameroon: Parents Mobilise - Against Mock Exams Fees

The issue of mock examination fee is yet to be laid to rest in the North West Province. Last year, some schools in the country went on the rampage asking for the re-imbursement of mock examination fee paid to school authorities. At present, the matter has taken another twist with parents getting fully involved. They have mobilised and called on school authorities not to demand any extra contribution for the mock exams.
Given that the provincial mock examination is an important instrument in the evaluation process, as well as an important tool in testing the preparedness of students. It also appreciated the efforts of stake holders involved in preparation of examination. It is against this backdrop that parents in the North West hold that it should be organized free of charge. Reason why the Union of Parents Teacher Association, UPTA, issued a press release to this effect. The statement that was signed by Christopher Abongwa Ako states that "UPTA is resolutely against the financing of the Provincial Mock". The release called on all PTA presidents to report to UPTA any school or principal collecting money for the exams. They said this is against a ministerial text. In line with the ministerial circular No 1310/07/L/MINESEC/SG of 10 May 2007 on the organization of mock examination. "Mock Examination including the mock GCE should be organized systematically to ensure proper preparation for official examination. No financial or material contribution should be levied on students and parents for the purpose".
The release went further to called on the government to reduce the exorbitant rate of CFA 15.000 levied for the registration of Common Entrance and First School Leaving Certificate Examinations. It also requested the creation of a Higher Technical Teachers Training College as well as the up grading of ENS Bambili to train high school teachers.
