The championship resumes this weekend from a recess that was prolonged due to the recent violence in the country.

The national elite football championship dubbed MTN Elite One, will resume action this weekend with matches for the 16th day of play scheduled in stadia across the country. The championship was supposed to have resumed last weekend but was postponed by officials of the Cameroon Football Federation following the nation-wide strike and violence that rocked the country.

On the look out will be the match between current league leaders, Canon Yaounde who play host to newly promoted Unisport of Bafang who by the end of the first phase of the competition, were already losing the steam with which they began the competition. Canon will be seeking to consolidate her lead in the league table whereas Unisport will be trying to get out of the stupor in which they have been for some time now. Another important match will be the encounter between the runners-up; Cotonsport of Garoua who are gunning after their 8th league title will clash with Union of Douala. Bottom placed, Tonnerre of Yaounde will equally be under close watch when they move to Douala to lock horns will local side, Astres. Fans and book makers will be eager to see if Tonnerre will put an end to the chain of defeats suffered in the first phase in the competition and begins its upward movement on the classification table so as to escape the relegation zone.

Though Cameroonian representatives in African Champions league and the Confederation Cup have been programmed to play this weekend, it is likely that the matches are going to be postponed given that they equally have continental engagements this weekend which were equally postponed by the Confederation of African Football due to the violence recorded in Cameroon. It is worthy to note that this is the last and most decisive phase of the competition and the ambition of every team will be to either grab a ticket for continental competitions next year or escape relegation to a lower division.
