Eritrea: President Isaias Inspects Progress of Development And Infrastructure Projects in Gash-Barka Region

Barentu — President Isaias Afwerki inspected the progress of development and infrastructure projects in Gash-Barka region in the course of a three-day visit.

During a visit to Gerset Dam, the President inspected the activities being undertaken to upgrade its water holding capacity, as well as the encouraging wheat and cotton farming in areas below the dam, in addition to conducting exchange of views with project managers.

President Isaias also visited the new dam in Fanko-Rawa that is under construction through Segen Construction Company, during which he received detailed briefings from experts regarding the work so far accomplished. Moreover, he visited the Gash Bridge being constructed through Gedem Construction Company in which over 1 km-long wall has been put in place so as to guarantee safety. The President commended the innovation and work efficiency demonstrated by those engaged in the undertaking, and that the experience already acquired would lay reliable groundwork for future activities.

Furthermore, President Isaias observed the Tessenei bridge and the Aligidir water diversion scheme both of which were damaged by flooding in the preceding rainy season, and reminded the concerned bodies to take speedy steps for their renovation.

Also in the course of an inspection tour of the Afhimbol Tomato Paste Factory, he was informed that the plant currently produces a total of 330 quintals per day. Besides, the President visited the extensive Haji Arebi plain where preparations are underway to put the area under cultivation, the Alebu Milk Factory and the Aligidir stores, as well as the large-scale agricultural projects in Molober and Afhimbol.

President Isaias also inspected the infrastructure projects being implemented in Prima-Cantri through Gedem Construction Company and the bricks factory in the surrounding area, during which he received briefings on present and future work programs.
