Every country, after going through an armed conflict, must proceed with the collection of weapons and ammunitions that are illegally under the possession of its citizens, as a means of guaranteeing stability and security of the population, as well as a reduction in crimes.
The conclusion came from the International Workshop on the Disarmament of Citizens Illegally Owning Firearms, promoted from Tuesday to Wednesday by the Home Affairs Ministry, at the Palace of Congresses, in the Angolan capital, Luanda.
At the final statement, the participants concluded that higher engagement from civil society be done, especially on sensitization of population.
In the final communiqué, participants concluded that there must be a grater engagement from the civil society, especially in sensitising the population.
They recognised that the illegal possession of guns by citizens worries the Angolan government, in a way that crimes committed with these objects are a threat to the tranquillity and security of people and foment fear and violence.
This way, they defended that measures to be applied in disarming the civil population must be in agreement with the commitments assumed in the internal plan, namely with the peace process, regional and international plan, but precisely within SADC, African Union and the United Nations.
