Cameroon: Commonwealth Week - Clean Up Campaign Underway

The campaign was launched yesterday in Yaounde.

In prelude to activities marking the 2008 Commonwealth week in Cameroon, the Minister Delegate in Charge of Relations with the Commonwealth, Dion Ngute, has called on the youths not to only show good examples by keeping their environment clean, but also to desist from bad practices such vandalism. He was speaking yesterday at the Yaounde IV Municipality while officially launching the Commonwealth Cleaning Campaign with the purpose to ensure a healthy environment. The cleaning campaign which is organised by the Ministry of External Relations is in collaboration with the Ministry of Youths and some councils in the country.

At the Nkolndongo market where the event took place, Minister Dion Ngute told youths as well as "buyam sellams" of the necessity to keep the environment clean, for a healthy body should live in a healthy and clean environment. He noted that the population should not only be involved in keeping their environment clean during the Commonwealth week but should continue to do so at all time. The Mayor of the Yaounde IV Council, Abega Theophile, lauded the environmental cooperation that exists between Cameroon and the Commonwealth.
