The 4 th edition of "Southern Savours and crafts " which is scheduled to take place between March 10 to 16, 2008, in Tunis, will celebrate the very ancient relations linking together Tunisia and Sicily through a rich display of crafts and arts such as literature, history, gastronomy, painting, history, music and dancing.

The event to which several Tunisian institutions have been associated, is organized by 'Mediservices', an organization which is very active in promoting cultural exchanges between Tunisia and Italy, as well as the NGO 'Sanad for the promotion of employment' which manages micro credits in the Bab Souika delegation in Tunis.

For a week, Tunis and its surroundings will play host to Sicilian culture through several exhibits and conferences which will highlight the common cultural and historic features between Tunisia and Italy as a whole, even if the influence of Sicily will loom large in the encounter between both Mediterranean cultures.

Here is a sample of the very ambitious, and highly revealing program concocted by the organizers of the event.

On March 10 , singing will be highlighted thanks to the concert dubbed "Amuri Duci Amuri" by Laura de Palma and her musicians at the Tunis Municipal Theater.

On March 11, the 'Didaskalos-Focus system' will enable thousands of visitors from Agrigente in Sicily to perform a virtual visit of the site of Carthage .

On March 12 and 13, a public tasting of creative Sicilian cuisine will take place in a restaurant in Menzah V.

On March 14, a seminar on the commitment of the Sicilian writer Leonardo Sciascia organized between the 'Sciascia Foundation' and the Tunisian universities of Manouba, November 7 th at Carthage, and Tunis 1, will be organized at the Tunis Planetarium.

On March 14 to 16, a dining buffet prepared by Sicilian chefs will be available, with the musical accompaniment being provided by 'Terra di Focu', a folk, dancing and singing band at the Renaissance Hotel in Gammarth.

Finally, throughout March 10 to 16, an artistic exhibit of ceramics by Maria Tasca, will also be on display at the Renaissance Hotel. Incidentally, the artist is from the Sicilian town of Caltagirone which supposedly comes from the Arabic 'Kalat Jrun', a fact which might explain the Islamic influence of her art.
