The spokesman of the Northwest Fons' Union, NOWEFU, Ntumfor Barrister Nico Halle, will, on Saturday, March 22, pay a formal visit to the President General of the Union, Fon Chafah XI of Bangolan.
The visit will fall in line with the tradition established by Halle, who is also the Legal Adviser of the Union. It would be recalled that the last of such visits was to the Palace of the Fon of Nso, Sehm Mbinglo, who was Fon Chafah's immediate predecessor.
Unlike with past visits, which held at the palaces of the various Fons, Ntumfor Halle will visit Fon Chafah at his temporary palace in Yaounde in the Omnisport Stadium neighbourhood.
Contacted on March 4 in Douala, Ntumfor Halle explained why the ceremony will hold in Yaounde and not in Bangolan.
"I would have very much loved the occasion to hold in Bangolan. But Fon Chafah is currently carrying out construction work at his palace in the village, and he has made me to believe that it is thus impossible for any occasion to hold there now," said Halle.
He said considering that Fon Chafah's mandate will end soon, and which will come before the end of the ongoing project at the Bangolan Palace, he is thus left with no choice but to visit Fon Chafah in Yaounde.
"It is really imperative that I pay the President General of NOWEFU a formal visit. You know that I attach a lot of importance to traditional institutions as they play a central role in the life of every nation," Ntumfor stated.
Ntumfor was also full of praises for Fon Chafah, for having embarked on the project to give the Palace of Bangolan modern structures. He reiterated his frequent call to people of the different villages in the Northwest to strive to provide their palaces with befitting looks. He said a palace is a mirror that reflects the people of a village.
Meanwhile asked about the issues he intends to address at the occasion, Ntumfor Halle disclosed that he will, among other things, talk about culture with particular attention to the respect for our cultural heritage, respect for traditional rulers and respect for elders and so on.
"I will also preach love, peace, harmony and development among other things," said Ntumfor.
Secretariat
Asked about the ongoing FCFA 300-million project to construct NOWEFU Multi Purpose Secretariat, Ntumfor Halle was happy to note that the project has greatly progressed to a stage where the building has already been roofed. He also congratulated Fon Chafah on the remarkable progress the project has made, during his two-year tenure of office as President General of NOWEFU.
"It is worth noting that the Fon of Nkwen donated the big piece of land for the project, the Fon of Bafut during his tenure as NOWEFU President General planted the project, the Fon of Nso watered the project and Fon Chafah has done so much to make it grow into a full blown tree," said Ntumfor.
He added that credit for the achievements of the project goes to members of the different bureaux that the aforementioned Fons headed while in office. The current Secretary General of NOWEFU, HRH Fon Fobuzie, for example, is the one who has been supervising the project
As to how they intend to secure funds to continue with the project, Ntumfor disclosed that the next fundraising will hold before the end of April 2008.
