Africa: Gladiators Suffer Crushing Defeat

Windhoek — Namibia's fairytale run in the Africa Women's qualifiers came to a premature halt when the Brave Gladiators suffered a 7-1 hammering at the hands of Nigeria's Super Falcons at the National Stadium in Abuja on Saturday.

Going into the second leg, the Gladiators already found themselves with their backs to the wall after having taken a 3-goal deficit from the first leg played in Windhoek slightly more than a fortnight ago.

The defeat means Namibian bows out of the competition 10 -1 on aggregate after they dispatched Botswana 9 -1 on aggregate in a high scoring two legged preliminary earlier this year.

The four-time African champions will now join 15 other nations when the finals for the 6th edition of the continental women's showpiece, gets underway in Equatorial Guinea next year.
