INDOOR residual spraying of DDT has been delayed due to administrative issues.

"The National Drug Authority is registering DDT and approving the company which will supply it. If this is sorted out, spraying will start," Emmanuel Otaala, the state minister for primary health care, said.

The Ministry of Health was scheduled to start spraying DDT on March 5 in the high malaria-endemic districts of Apac, Lira, Kitgum, Amuru, Gulu, Pader, Mbale and Pallisa.

Otaala said the technicalities would be sorted out before the end of this month.

Indoor residual spraying is one of the strategies the Government has adopted to control malaria, which kills about 320 Ugandans daily.

The head of the Malaria Control Programme, Dr. John Rwakimari, said by 2010, all malaria-prone areas would have been sprayed.
