Kenya: IT Firm to Host Faster Internet

Nairobi — UUNET (K) Ltd plans to enter into partnership with Akamai Technologies in a bid to offer international content from its local servers.

Akamai is a global service provider that accelerates content and applications online.

"We are confident our customers will experience faster download speeds of popular international sites by up to 75 per cent," said Mr Davidson Thaba, the UUNET technical operations manager, promising customers a five to 10-fold performance boost when accessing the websites.

Thaba said the company would use the technology to improve download speeds of content from popular websites like Yahoo Inc, Microsoft, Hewlett Packard (HP), Apple, McAfee, among others.
