10 March 2008

Members of the National Defense and National Security Committees of the 52nd National Legislature and Representatives of Civil Society Working Group on Security Sector Reform are expected to participate in a training seminar on Defense Budgeting and Governance.

According to a release, the training seminar is scheduled to be held at the Governance Commission conference room in Monrovia 10 to 12 March, 2008.

The training program for parliamentarians, according to the release signed by the co-chairman of the House Committee on National Security, Rep. Elijah F. Seah, is being facilitated by the African Security Sector Network (ASSN) in collaboration with the Geneva Centre for Democratic Control of Armed Forces (DCAF) and the Conflict Security and Development Group (CSDG) at the King's College, London.

Rep. Seah in the release pointed out that the training seminar is part of a holistic program which exposes members of the Liberian Senate and House Committees on national defense, national security and intelligence to a range of issues and topics relating to their oversight roles of the security sector.

The training seminar is expected to be an interactive forum through which facilitators and participants will share knowledge and experiences on security sector reform.
