Kumawu - Ash — THE LIONS Club of Market Drayton of Shropshire, in the West Midland of England, as part of its charity programme to cater for the social needs of the deprived, needy and the sick on the local and international scene, has raised £150 to purchase a quantity of exercise books for the Otuo Acheampong Memorial International School, at Kumawu in the Sekyere Afram Plains District of the Ashanti Region.
The gesture was mooted by District Officer Lion Roy Cole, of the Market Drayton Lions
Club of England, whose brother, Mr. Allan Cole alias Nana Cole, has worked and stayed in Kumawu for nearly 50 years.
Lion Cole announced that a link would soon be established between the local school, and that of a school in Market Drayton, in Shropshire, England.
The presentation of exercise books to the Otuo Acheampong Memorial International School, considered to be one of the leading private schools in the locality, was performed by Lion Afua Hansan, President of the Kumasi Lions Club, on behalf of the donors.
She hoped "this small start would lead to a great future for the Lions to promote education". Mr. Charles Kwadwo Nimo, proprietor of the school, who received the gift, thanked the Lions Club for the support and hoped the link, thus established through the Coles and the Lions Club, would be sustained into the future, for the benefit of the peoples of the two countries.
