Angola: Parliament Speaker Arrives in Sao Tome And Principe

The speaker of the National Assembly (Parliament) of Angola, Roberto de Almeida arrived in Sao Tome and Principe for an official work visit at the invitation of his local counterpart, Francisco da Silva.

The top Angolan parliamentarian was received at the Sao Tomean capital's airport by his counterpart and local MPs.

This Monday's afternoon programme includes a visit to the northern region of Sao Tome and an evening cultural event at the Cultural Centre.

On Tuesday, Roberto de Almeida will attend a formal welcoming ceremony at the Sao Tomean Parliament, followed by work meetings with his counterpart, and with the first specialised commission and with the Sao Tome and Principe/Angola parliamentary friendship group.

On Wednesday, the Angolan parliament speaker will meet with the Sao Tomean Head of State, Fradique de Menezes, and with the prime minister, as well as with the leader of the main opposition party.

A trip, on Thursday, to the "Ilhéu das Rosa's" tourism site is also part of the programme of activities of Roberto de Almeida's visit, which is expected to end Friday with the signing of a joint declaration.

In this trip, the Angolan official is being accompanied by the MPs Jacques Matos Gala and Albertina Teresa José (ruling MPLA party) and by Henriques Afonso Raimundo (main opposition UNITA party).
