Fon Chafah XI of Bangolan, President General of the Northwest Fons' Union, NOWEFU, has resolved not to take another mandate.
Fon Chafah, who briefed the press in Bamenda last week, said he had received calls from fellow Fons to amend the Union's constitution and take another term, but he considered such a move inappropriate.
He said he was elected on the ambit of a three-year mandate which will soon end.
Recalling the election that catapulted him to the position of NOWEFU leadership, he said he promised to construct the NOWEFU Secretariat in Nkwen.
To ensure that he accomplishes his task, Fon Chafah said a fundraising has been programmed to take place on April 5 at the Bamenda Congress Hall, with a target of FCFA 30 million.
He pleaded to all sons and daughters of the Northwest to attend and contribute generously.
On why he did not organise fundraising in all the ten provinces as he promised, Fon Chafah said he thought it was better to use the funds raised before sourcing for more.
He frowned on some economic operators many of them resident in the Northwest, but from other provinces, for failing to contribute to the Fons' secretariat project.Giving an account of his stewardship at the helm of NOWEFU, Fon Chafah recalled that he signed two important protocol agreements: one with Orange Cameroon which gave NOWEFU FCFA 12 million, with a promise to give FCFA 500,000 every year for maintenance and to sponsor all activities of the Fons, and another with the Ministry of Health.
The agreement with the Health Ministry was worth 44 million and the money is intended to combat HIV/AIDS in the Province.Fon Chafah also told the press that the next NOWEFU President will come from one of the four Divisions that have not yet produced one. These are Momo, Boyo, Menchum and Donga-Mantung.
He recalled with regret the bitterness that characterised his own election. This was because he had a challenger from the same Division, Fon Fosi Yakumtaw of Bangolan. He pleaded that whichever Division would produce the next president should avoid the experience he went through by putting up a unique candidate.
Present during the briefing was Fon Mbahmbi III of Aghem whom most people consider the "natural candidate" when Menchum's turn would come.
