The Managing Director of Pop Star Botswana, Keabetswe "Master Dee" Mosinyi, is being pursued by Letshego Legal Guard over an alleged debt.

Tobias Magwegwe, a freelance cameraman, says the Reggae musician owes him P1, 600 for the services he rendered last year during the Pop Star television recordings. After allegedly failing to recover his costs he engaged the services of Letshego Legal Guard.

"I've tried with all might to try and get this man to pay me but he has blatantly refused. He's got money. I mean look at all the sponsors for his shows. How can he refuse to pay me a mere P1, 600," said Magwegwe.

A letter written to Master Dee by Magwegwe's legal representatives stated that sometime during March 2007, the complainant was hired through AV Communications as a cameraman to shoot Pop Star Botswana programme at a rate of P400-00 per day.

The writ, dated February 28, further states that Magwegwe video-taped the TV programme for four days and was not paid his fees.

"Client has lodged a claim with our office seeking legal expenses cover on his matter with you. Upon assessment of client's matter it became apparent that client has valid case against you and we wish to remind you that he is entitled to claim costs against you upon successful completion of his case in terms of the laws of Botswana."

The writ further asserts that the matter between Master Dee and their client can be settled at this stage before it is referred to court.

"In view of the above, we advise that you pay our client the amount of P1, 600 being his wages for the work done for your programme. You are further advised to have paid the said amount within a period of three (3) days from the date of receiving this letter failing which client shall refer the matter to court to recover his money."

However, when contacted for comment, Master Dee said he is shocked about Magwegwe's claims, saying he neither knew nor had ever met the man in question. He said, instead, he only met Magwegwe for the first time on Tuesday, March 4th, when he was serving him with papers from his lawyers.

"I think he has been sent by my detractors to shame me. I don't know him and he has never done any work for me. My apprehension is that if he claims I owe him where has he been all along only to resurface this time claiming I owe him."

The Reggae star, however, says he was not surprised by the latest claims saying it had become a norm for detractors to try to destroy those that are on the way up."

"They never want to see success. Whenever you pull your head up to the next level they do all in their power to bring you down. I'm not surprised," he said.
