Botswana: Mmaramotswe Finally Out

Francistown — After the long anticipated wait, many locals will surely eat humble to learn that The No 1 Ladies Detective Agency film, otherwise known as the MmaRamotswe, is scheduled for airing on the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) UK channel 1 on Easter Monday.

The film, which was shot in Botswana, is scheduled to air for the first time on March 24.

According to a press release from the Ministry of Environment, Wildlife and Tourism, prior to this anticipated airing, the film shall premier at the British Film Institute's Southbank's Auditoriums in London.

The airing has been organized by the production stable -the Weinstein Company Inc /Mirage Productions UK and the Government through the Botswana Tourism Board top UK Tour Operators and other important Botswana associates and strategic guests and partners who have been invited.

"This will be followed by another premier hosted by the BBC for the international media/press on Tuesday March 18."

The Botswana premier is scheduled for some time in April.

The film's director, Anthony Minghela, had this to say: "Particularly fascinating to me was working and filming in an African country where old and new are currently co-existing, where traditional values have not yet been eroded by the demands and efficiencies of the modern."

BBC Head of Television Commissioning, Jane Tranter was also impressed. "To have both voices and the visual eye of one of the worlds most sought after film producers and directors combined with the stunningly beautiful and striking setting of Botswana are a real privilege."
