Mochudi Buffaloes might not have been considered as favourites for promotion to the Mascom Premier League when the season started.

But they are steadily proving their mettle in the First Division South League. It is too early but the Kgatleng side's dream of joining their big brothers Mochudi Centre Chiefs in the top-flight is on track.

Following a hard fought 1-0 against Tlokweng United over the weekend, Dinare are now top of the log with 30 points. Their leadership and aspirations are however not yet secure because only a point separates them from Killer Giants and Naughty Boys.

The league has now reached an interesting stage where every point counts and players' endurance will be tested to the limit in the next few weeks. Killer Giants have gone back to their 'drawing style' and they might regret this at the end of the season. On Sunday, the Ramotswa side failed to use homeground advantage to overcome Young Strikers at Siga and shared the spoils when victory would have propelled them to the top of the standings. Giants went to the match after temporarily halting their 'drawing streak' and beating Prisons XI a week ago. Meanwhile, Naughty Boys are back in contention after a 1-0 win over troublesome Ghanzi Terrors. They have now amassed 29 points the same as Killer Giants but they are third on goal difference.

Prisons XI are fourth with 27 points following their 1-0 win over bottom-placed Blue Diamonds. Prisons XI coach Stanley Mwaanga is hopeful that his team will win the league and make a quick return to top flight soccer. "A league is a marathon and in every marathon, there is a sprint especially in the last 100 metres or so and we have started sprinting and hopefully God will bless us to be the first to reach the finishing line," Mwaanga said.

While the other three title contenders, Buffaloes, Giants and Naughty Boys have some interesting youngsters determined to prove a point, Prisons XI boasts a wealth of experience. In defence, they have two former Zebras'p players Oneeleng 'Six' Radikara and Kabelo Kgosiang.

The duo has been consistent this season and might prove crucial for the warders at the crucial stages. Inexperienced Kaizer Molapo has been scoring crucial goals for Prisons XI this season and the coach is hoping that his combination with Moses Magwaneng will improve in the last games.
