Port Louis — The Centre d'Etudes Superieures in Ebène opened its doors last Friday to present its fields of study to HSC holders.
The "Centre d'Etudes Supérieures", affiliated to the Chamber of Commerce, organized its open day on Friday 7th March at the Cyber City, in Ebene. It was an opportunity for those who want to have a management career in private enterprises.
The "Centre d'Etudes Supérieures" opened its doors to students to guide them towards possible gateways for a bright future. The institute provides several courses for students with an HSC or higher certificates. They are all related to management of enterprises and the main fields of studies are: Information technology and Management, Management and Accounting. The courses prepare student for a career enterprises, which are becoming promising sectors of the future.
Two work placements during the course
All the courses offered by the "Centre d'Etudes Supérieures" award certificates issued by French universities. A Brevet de Technicien Superieur (BTS), which is a French diploma, is open to students with an HSC. It is a full-time course of two years' duration including two work placements. The students thus have both theory and practical skills.
With a diploma in IT Management, one can aim for a career as IT analyst/ programmer for which there is a growing demand in enterprises. The IT diploma analyses, creates and puts into practice information systems while taking into consideration the economic, organizational and technical constraints of organizations.
With a diploma in Management of small and medium enterprises, much importance is put on the ability to be polyvalent. The objective of this course is to train students to do administrative tasks, accounting and commerce. The course takes into consideration practical aspects of small and medium enterprises, human resource management, public relations, marketing and general, analytical and budgetary accounting.
Yet another field of studies is the diploma in Management of Commercial units. Through this course, one can become efficient in taking part or even whole responsibility of commercial units.
After their BTS, students can specialize in specific fields and go on to a Masters degree. Masters courses are offered in partnership with the University Of Reunion and the University of Poitiers. Students can follow these courses in Mauritius or they can ask for admission to the French University.
The advantage which the "Centre d'Etudes Supérieures" provides is that one can have a French diploma or degree without spending the large amount of money involved in studying abroad. Another advantage is the payment facilities which the institute offers to students. The fees can be paid in "instalments".
Beside the financial advantages, there is also the special attention and care given to the students. The classes are not large and the tutors can give particular attention to each student. Support, counselling and career guidance services also exist for students. "Here at the "Centre d'Etudes Supérieures", it's easier to adapt. There are not too many in the class and we are better tutored by the lecturers", says Ann-Julie Lee Ken Sang, first year student at the 'Centre d'Etudes Supérieures'.
Working according to the demand
The institute has up to now put lots of diploma and degree holders on the labour market. According to Ashraf Joomun, director of the Chamber of Commerce, all students of the "Centre d'Etudes Supérieures" find employment in enterprises as soon as they have finished their studies as they already have work experience. "We learn directly from the employers what the demand is in their enterprises and work according to it.We want to help the economic development of the BPO sector and there is presently a great demand for people with a know-how of French accounting in these sectors. What also makes a difference is the way we welcome and support the students. This has been a great motivation factor in their success", declares Ashraf Joomun.
