Harare — St George's College together with the 2007 CBZ A Academy winners will this Friday host a benefit concert show to fundraise for the Jairos Jiri Association.
The concert, to be held at Celebration Centre, is one of the many initiatives that the school will carry out to assist the underpriviledged. Other schools have been invited to participate in this charity event.
The major draw card would be the CBZ A Academy winners that include Jonah Sithole, Joseph Lugube and Jonathan Deuschle's new band.
It will also feature some of the winners plus some new dance hip hop acts that Gary Thompson, the executive director of the CBZ A Academy has identified.
"Pupils at St George's College have rallied behind the needs of society to raise funds for the under privileged. Their newest project has enlisted the musical talent show the CBZ A Academy, to assist," said Norman Brackley who is one of the pupils.
"We want to help the Jairos Jiri Association and the popularity of the A Academy gives us a concert to do it. We are very grateful to have the academy stars lend their support"
The CBZ A Academy (Zimbabwe's version of the idols) has grown from success to a national movement where credibility and stardom collide. Celebration Centre was selected for the concert because of the lights, multimedia sound and security benefits.
"We are going to give an unbelievable showcase of entertainment to have the crowd screaming for more. It's all for a good cause and you have got to love the energy of young people to have a wholesome night out," said Gary.
St Georges College challenged other schools to a "song shoot out" and to involve themselves in charity work.
