Addis Abeba — A ten-day long exhibition at the Addis Ababa exhibition centre showing the Ethiopian Orthodox Church's long journey over the past two millenniums concluded on Tuesday indebting organizers with unforeseen costs.
Leaving costs in the preparation of exhibits aside, the exhibition cost sthe church some 210,000 Birr for the ten-day exhibition, according to Mulugeta Hailemariyam, Chair Person of Mahibere-Kidusan, the official organizer of the exhibition.
He said he found the amount to exceed the proceeds the church collected from entrance fees and the sale of publications by 100,000 birr.
The exhibition organized in the context of the third Ethiopian millennium celebrations sought to show the long journey the church went through and the troubles that came and went in its history over the last two thousand years.
The fact that the church outlived the trying moments in its history was highlighted at the exhibition.
The exhibition also aimed at bringing to light the church's contribution to the country's overall development in different sectors.
The church's role in the development of Ethiopian literature, music construction and architecture over the past two millennium was also highlighted during the exhibition.
The exhibition drew over five thousand visitors who included people from all corners of the capital and surrounding towns.
The chairperson said the church plans to organize the exhibition in the regions, including other countries.
He said that would offer the organizers a chance to compensate the unforeseen costs.
"We will compensate this loss," Deacon Mulugeta said.
