Efforts by the Daily Observer staff to pay its journalists' membership dues to the GPU ahead of the forthcoming triennial congress that would see the election of a new executive body for the Gambia Press Union is proving fruitful.
When the Daily Observer called at the offices of the union yesterday, the Daily Observer was able to present a cheque for D3,720 for the "annual subscription fee for 31 Daily Observer staff".
This now means that the 31 Daily Observer applicants have paid their annual subscription in full and should be able to pertake in the deliberations and decisions of the forth coming GPU congress. As we said in the Daily Observer yesterday we await the GPU Executive's confirmation of the membership of our journalists. We anticipate no problem in this and wish the GPU good luck at the Congress's deliberations.
