Santos Mamelodi Sundowns at the Super Stadium in Attridgeville tonight. The match was initially billed for Loftus Stadium but was changed because Loftus is undergoing construction.
Coach David Bright has seen his side win five matches on the trot to move strongly up the table. They are currently placed fifth on 34 points and unquestionably the form team of the league at present, scoring 14 goals on the way to picking up a perfect 15 points since a loss to Free State Stars at the start of the second half of the season.
On Saturday night, they produced a rousing second half performance to see off Golden Arrows 3-1 at Athlone, a result that will give them great confidence ahead of their trip to Pretoria. Sundowns could only draw at home to Bloemfontein Celtic on Saturday afternoon in a match between two sides that looked short of form and self-belief.
Coach Trott Moloto has not had an easy time since assuming the reigns from Gordon Igesund, but he will need to start picking up wins on a regular basis if he is to impress club boss Patrice Motsepe. The visit of red hot Santos, then, may not come at a good time as far as the hosts are concerned, but statistics show that the Peoples' Team has not claimed a win away to the Brazilians since 2002/03.
Furthermore, Sundowns have a comfortable superiority over Santos in head-to-head records, with 12 wins to the visitors' five in 26 league matches since 1991. Earlier in the season, the two sides played to a 1-1 draw in Cape Town. (kickoff.com)
