Owerri — IMO State Command of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) is threatening to impound any vehicle found on the road with tinted glasses and improvised plate numbers.
Also to attract same punishment are those found to be either overloaded or involved in arbitrary use of Imo State government, House of Assembly and local government official plate numbers on their private vehicles.
The Sector Commander, Mr. Angus Obum Ibezim, who read the riot act in Owerri, told newsmen in Owerri that the misuse of official number plates had taken an ugly dimension as some of these plates are now being concealed with polythene on an alleged ground of security.
"Henceforth, anybody or group of persons accosted using government official number plates on any privatevehicle for which it is not registered, will have his vehicle impounded and the driver arrested and prosecuted", Ibezim said.
Answering a question, the Sector Commander said there is no shortage of number plates in the state.
