An executive of a Liberian owned logging company, Tropical Reserve Entrepreneur Enterprise (TREE) has lauded the transparency introduced by President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf in the forestry sector.
Mr. Peter Amos George Jr. said that in contrast to the past, loggers particularly Liberians are now given more opportunities to participate fully in any bidding process for forest management contracts.
Mr. George who is the Chairman of the Board of Directors of TREE said the recent bidding process for small scale time production organized by the forestry Development Authority under the watchful eyes of the UN Security Council, the American Embassy and other independent groups signified the highest degree of transparency in the forestry sector.
TREE executive however said business needs to go beyond that to strengthen the capacity of Liberia-owned logging companies through incentives such as taxes, holidays, and tax reductions especially on heavy duty equipment.
He emphasized that such a gesture to Liberia businesses in general would undoubtedly get on par with their foreign competitors who are benefiting immensely from bank loans.
Mr. George, who recently gave out their packages and a truck to tow Liberia logging companies assigned in their work told this paper that only Liberians can help Liberians.
He said Tarpeh Timber Corporation and the CYV Timber Incorporated deserve the right to benefit from him if the Liberianization policy is to be register.
