Monrovia — The NEWS has leant that some aggrieved applicants who allegedly failed the Census Aptitude Test (CAT) administered by the Liberia Institute for Statistics and Geo Information Services (LISGIS) disrupted an ongoing training for successful applicants at the William V.S. Tubman and G.W. Gibson High Schools in Monrovia.

LISGIS Executive Director Dr. Edward Liberty claimed that the aggrieved applicants who protested the results of the test forced their way into the workshop and erroneously informed participants that LISGIS had deducted US$15 from the US$20 allocated daily for each candidate.

He told a press conference Wednesday that the aggrieved applicants attacked the entity's vehicles at G.W. Gibson High School where he had gone to address their concerns.

He said the incident occurred in the presence of some police officers who had accompanied him and other staff at the school.

Dr. Liberty alleged that the angry applicants regrouped and headed for the Newport High School where LISGIS is also conducting training for numerators of the national census.

LIGIS Executive Director: "They also mislead the candidates that government has provided US$20 per day for the participants."

Displaying LISGIS's budget to reporters, Dr. Liberty indicated that US$5 was allocated for participants who will past a test at the end of the eight day training.

"We are appealing to people who failed the test to accept the result. They need to avoid causing problem for people who are qualified to do the job," Dr. Liberty said.

He warned those who are planning to disrupt the process to desist from such act because according to him, it will undermine the National Census.

Liberty explained that test papers were shown to some of the applicants who failed the aptitude test but they continue their action.

Dr. Liberty said no arrest has been made so far, but has sought for security protection for his staff.
