With two games to go, Double Action has retained the Women Football League title for the third year in a row after amassing an unassailable 45 points.

Untouchables are assured of second place with 36 points already in the bag while Kanye Swallows with 29 will finish third. Lobatse-based Roosters finished the 10-club league without a win and are placed last.

Double action now have the right to keep the trophy for good after being crowned champions three times. The club has won the league since its revival three seasons ago. Its strikers Thuto Ramafifi and Neo Masimola are leading the score sheet with 33 and 27 goals respectively.

Coach Agreement Podi told Mmegi Sport that the win did not come cheap. He said the competition has grown tremendously and the tactical awareness has improved. He said his side has been saved by experience, hard work and determination. "We have won the league before and we know what to do when the going gets tough," he said.

However, Podi said other clubs made the mistake of targeting them and forgetting other opponents. He advised other clubs that it is important to take every opponent seriously, as football is a game of surprises. He wants to reinforce his team to win the league next season again. "I promise that next season, people will see a more improved Double Action." Podi, who is also the chairperson of the league committee wants more regions to form clubs to increase competition. The Women League is currently played in the southern region only. Podi said other regions should stop complaining about Botswana Football Association (BFA) failing to facilitate formation of clubs. "They should not only wait for BFA. I advise them to form teams and ask BFA to help them on something they have already established," he said. Recently the newly-formed Serowe side, Golden Girls had to be excluded from the league because it was the only team in the north. Podi said that the future looks bright for women football though progress is still hampered by lack of finances. He said clubs like Lobatse Roosters are struggling not because they do not have players, but because they have financial problems.
