Kampala — THE LRA have raided a remote border town in the Central African Republic and abducted more than 80 residents, according to a local MP.
"We heard from our compatriots in Obo that the rebels invaded and looted the town, and forcefully abducted 80 people. They left, but we do not know where they are now," the area MP, Auguste Agoude, told Reuters by phone.
He said nearly 100 people had taken part in the attack.
Security sources in Uganda connected the incident to an earlier attack that took place on March 3 in which LRA rebels clashed with SPLA forces at Ezo in South Sudan. A total of 35 LRA rebels were killed, while four SPLA soldiers died.
"It was after the Ezo attack that the SPLA blocked them, so they (LRA) went on to attack Obo two days later," said the source.
The sources added: "From Obo, they moved towards the Sudanese town of Tambora. They divided into two as one group moved northwards and another crossed the river on the borderline, back into DRC."
