Nigeria: Taiwanese Firms Want Cassava From Country

Lagos — PROSPECT for more growth in non oil sector of the Nigerian economy continued in Abuja with a disclosure by Taiwanese firms of their readiness to import 500 to 1000 tonnes of cassava produce from the country on trial basis within the shortest possible time.

General manager of NEDTEX Co. and Yearchain Co., Mr. Shao Chang Su, said this during his visit alongside representatives of Aso Multi-Purpose Co-operative Society to Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) to solicit for assistance, a release signed by NEPC Public Affairs Manager, Ndubeze Okeke, has stated.

Speaking while receiving the visitors, acting Executive Director/CEO of NEPC, Mr. Aliyu Lawal, said the council is always willing to facilitate opportunities for exporters adding that, in line with her statutory responsibility, the council will do all within its mandate to ensure that Nigerian products penetrate the international markets.

On the request from Mr. Aso Vakporaye, the CEO of Aso Multi-Purpose Co-operative Society for assistance to help make the business venture a less stressful one, the NEPC boss assured that the Council would liaise with the Nigerian Export-Import Bank (NEXIM), in an effort to facilitate funding for the company, to enable it commence trial shipment of 500 tonnes of cassava produce to the said Taiwanese firms. NEXIM has been collaborating with the Council in financing export trial orders.

Earlier, Mr. Chang Su disclosed that his companies were willing to have a long term business relationship with Nigerian exporters if the price and quality of their products were competitive and meet international standard.
