The 11th summit of the Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC) was open Thursday morning in Dakar in front 45 heads of state and government.

During their two-day meeting, the OIC member countries' heads odf state and government will discuss the "role of the Islamic Ummah and the 21st century demands".

Other topics such as the updated OIC charter, the lot of the Palestinian people's lot, Islamophobia, the economic, social and cultural partnership within the Ummah will be discussed in the Senegalese capital.

Senegal is organising this summit for the second time, after hosting it fot the first in 1991.

The OIC was created in 1969 to defend the interest of Muslims in the world and to strengthen the relations between Islamic countries, in reaction to the burning of Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. It has 57 member states.
