Canon has continued with its good performance which started ever since the beginning of the second leg of the elite championship last year. at the end of the first phase of the championship last year, Canon was in the relegation zone but managed to work its way up the league table to the fourth position, nearly grabbing a ticket for continental competitions.

Given its shaky start at the beginning of that season, many football observers thought the performance of the Kpa Kum Boys was just a strike of the match in darkness and that Canon, like Tonnerre before them, was just animating the championship to make way for Cotonsport to top the charts at the end of the season. Many thought the hay days of the club was over and that it was living on past glories.

However, Canon was to continue with her impressive performance especially after changes effected in the technical staff of the team. Canon ca me first at the end of the first leg of the current MTN Elite One championship and her 2-0 victory over Unisport of Bafang on the 16th of play upon the resumption of the championship, depicts that Canon, which is the most titled club in the country, is in for serious business this season. With 11 victories and five defeats recorded, as opposed to their immediate challenger, Cotonsport of Garoua who have only eight matches and drew seven, Canon is out to reassert its supremacy in Cameroonian football. Canon currently leads with 33 points, two points ahead of Cotonsport in the second position.

The distant duel between the two teams for leadership of the championship continues this week end with day 17 matches scheduled in stadia across the country. On the look-out therefore will be the match between Cotonsport and the University of Ngaoundere to take place at the Municipal stadium in Ngaoundere. The stake in Dschang will be to find out if Canon will be able to maintain their lead in the championship against local side, Aigle.

Meanwhile there will be a battle of a different kind at the bottom of the league table, where Tonnerre which animated the first phase of the championship last year, has come to occupy the unenviable position occupied by CPS of Bertoua last year. Tonnerre is current last on the league table and there are no signs of the team making an upward movement on the classification chart. Maybe, the match against Foudre of Akonolinga will be an opportunity for the team to turn the tables.
