This sports season in Cameroon is full of innovations and even surprises. One of such is the broadcast of some of the matches of the Elite football championship, live, on the national television. Great idea! It will definitely help to rekindle interest in the championship. And what more, people from other parts of the world can also watch how football is played in the country of Milla and Eto'o since CRTV is on satellite.
And that is where the problem is. In effect, great has been the shock of many people out of Cameroon when they see the sorry state of the stadiums on which our Elite championship is played. Last Wednesday, the spotlight was on the military stadium in Yaounde; a sports facility which elsewhere is not even worthy of a playground for a primary school. So that is where Eto'o started? Most people out of Cameroon have been asking in astonishment.
It is high time we develop our sports infrastructure and spare ourselves such humiliation. Many people find it hard to understand why Cameroon has had so many victories in sports, especially football, and yet nothing to show as infrastructure. This too, is the paradox of Cameroon's football.
