The Truckers Association, the umbrella group of all container and other commercial trucks operating in he country in collaboration with the Liberian National Police (LNP), and the Liberia Seaport Police (LSP) have imposed a set of restrictions on the movement of all container trucks leaving the Freeport of Monrovia.

The new measures according to the Truckers Association, the LNP and LSP intend to protect lives and properties and the restrictions will be enforced against all container trucks without any exception.

The head of the Truckers Association, Mr Tetteh, said as of now under the new restrictions, the movement of some trucks will be restricted only to the Bushrod Island, while others will only be restricted to Central Monrovia to avoid accidents which in most cases result to deaths.

Other truck drivers, who spoke to the press, after their president's assertions, expressed support over the new restrictions. He urged all member of the Truckers Association to respect and abide by the new restrictions to demonstrate that they are law abiding citizens.

LNP Chief of Traffic, Miekee Gray said, as of now, the police would adopt a system, where it will conduct a vigorous check on all container trucks on the first three working days of every month.

Speaking to reporters, when the LNP and the LSP conducted a vigorous inspection exercise of all container trucks entering and leaving the Freeport of Monrovia, Commissioner Gray said the checking exercise, would continue and is not a "one man show," as some people may think.

He said the system is a check and balance process by both the LNP and LSP; stressing that under the system, any truck that is not road worthy will be arrested.

Also speaking during the meeting LSP Chief, Ashford Peal, said although it is important to ensure that goods are on the market to meet the needs of consumers, but it is equally important to ensure that the trucks are safe in the interest of the public.
