Botswana: UB Sacks Two Lecturers

Gaborone — The University of Botswana has sacked two lecturers - one for leaking exams to students for cash and the other for faking references.

The exam leakage lecturer was busted by the Directorate on Corruption and Economic Crime (DCEC). UB spokesman, Samuel Moribame, said the two lecturers were dismissed after internal disciplinary hearings. He revealed that the two were charged with professional misconduct. "We can't go into details on personnel matters. We can't even release their names," he stated. However, sources have revealed that the cash-for-exam lecturer is a mathematician. He was paid P1,200 per paper by each student he leaked exams to. DCEC boss Tymon Katlholo told Mmegi a few weeks ago that they have completed investigations into the exam leakage and the case is waiting for registration with the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

Mmegi has been reliably informed that the other lecturer kicked out by UB is a foreigner from Ghana. He was working in the Faculty of Education. He is alleged to have faked references and a CV in his endeavour to get employed by UB.
