Gaborone — Brutal killings of people by their acquaintances, lovers and drinking partners continues to soar around the country.
In the past week, the police clocked six cases of murder in which five suspects were arrested for five of the cases. This brings to 42 the total number of murder cases recorded since the beginning of the year, compared to 46 cases recorded during the same period last year. Out of 42 cases, 14 were love-related.
In one of the incidents on 8 March 2008 in Gaborone, a 31 year old man was murdered by a 25 year old woman of Lobatse Institute of Health Science who is alleged to be his girlfriend, after a misunderstanding. In yet another incident that occurred in Francistown on 7 March 2008 a 50 year old man of Block 1, Francistown, shot and killed a 29 year old man of Tonota. The man was shot after breaking into a house, police suspect. The police would like to advise members of the public, especially those who have unstable relationships to seek help from other people such as family members whenever they have problems. They should exercise self-restraint and avoid yielding to emotion when they make decisions.
