Harare — Visiting Lesotho National Olympic Committee officials have been impressed by the level of professionalism of the Zimbabwe Olympic Committee.
LNOC chief executive Tsepo Hlojeng and secretary general Mofihli Makoele came on a one-week mission. ZOC general manager Stanley Mutoya said it was pleasing to be considered a model NOC in the region and felt obliged to assist in the spirit of Olympism.
"This one week intensive programme included taking delegates to meet with Team Zimbabwe 2008 Chef de Mission, meeting presidents of swimming and basketball, meeting with SRC directorate, Ministry of Education, Sport and Culture permanent secretary.
"They also toured sporting facilities at the recently established Olympic Sports Centre at Prince Edward School and the University of Zimbabwe.
"The delegates have been given supporting documents as reference material and we are confident that the delegates benefited immensely and that the networking will continue after this initial business contact, said Mutoya.
Makoele said they were established at the same time with ZOC but the hosts have grown bigger.
"Since we got here we have seen professionalism at its best. We have similar functions with ZOC but they have grown bigger," said Makoele.
The chief executive Hlojeng said they were now left with putting into practice what they had learnt.
"We will take into considerations how the Commissions support the secretariat, we have realise here the board has a role to play and the Olympic Academy in Lesotho we still have it in a narrow manner.
"ZOC also learnt some issues from us and we will always impart knowledge where they require it like hosting the Anoca games as we were the inaugural hosts.
"We have four athletes in marathon who have qualified for Beijing. We are still hopeful others will qualify in boxing and athletics this month," said Hlojeng.
