Uganda: FDC Chairman Rejects Museveni Portrait

Kibaale — KIBAALE District Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), Chairman Muhereza Ayebale Kanyarusoke caused a stir when he rejected President Museveni's portrait.

The portrait had been given to him as a gift at a local function last week by the State Minister for Internal Affairs Matia Kasaija.

This was during the fundraising function for King Solomon Secondary School in Kenga Parish in Kagadi Sub county.

Mr Kasaija, who was the chief guest invited Mr Kanyarusoke for the gift urging him to appreciate President Museveni's achievements like the restoration of the rule of law, development, among others. However, Mr Kanyarutooke turned down the offer.

Mr Kanyarutooke instead said he would have been comfortable if he was offered the portrait of DrKizza Besigye, the FDC party president.

"This country would have been better off in governance, economic and social development if Dr Besigye was President," Mr Kanyarutooke told the gathering. Mr Kanyarutooke is an outspoken Opposition activist in the district.
