Uganda: Museveni Warns Bugiri Leaders Over Naads Money

Bugiri — PRESIDENT Yoweri Museveni has lashed out at local leaders in Bugiri District for their poor implementation of the National Agricultural Advisory Srevices (Naads) programme.

The President expressed shock after learning that out of the Shs508 million the government released to the district under the programme, Nabukalu Sub-county did not get its share of Shs 88 million.

He was last week in the district to campaign for the NRM candidate Stephen Baka Mugabi who is vying for the Bukhooli North parliamentary seat. The by-election has attracted seven candidates. Mr Museveni said Bugiri District leaders should explain how the money failed to the people at the grassroots.

He said government's Rural Water and Sanitation programme for the district to sink boreholes had been suspended because most households did not have pit latrines.

"I am just waiting for a report on this and see when it will resume", the President said at Nabukalu Primary school.

However, the presence of the President has not scared any of the other candidates in the race. JEEMA's Asuman Basalirwa said the president is for everybody so the voters should not diverted.

"When he is here he uses taxpayers' money which is paid by both NRM supporters and those who support Opposition parties," he said.
