PRESIDENT Levy Mwanawasa leaves for Angola today for a four-day state visit.
Dr Mwanawasa is expected to touch down at 4 De Fevereiro International Airport in the capital, Luanda, at 16:00 hours Zambian time.
Zambia's Ambassador to Angola, Marina Nsingo, said top on the agenda of President Mwanawasa's visit is the signing of agreements on extradition and transfer of prisoners of the two countries.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Zambia's North-Western and Angola's Benguela provinces would also be signed.
Ms Nsingo described President Mwanawasa's visit as important for both countries because their proximity allowed for closer interaction in terms of trade and other mutually beneficial exchanges.
She said before the civil war in Angola, Zambia relied heavily on the Benguela railway line from Lobito Bay for imports and exports of goods and services.
She pointed out that with the booming mining industry in Zambia's North-Western Province, the MoU to be signed during President Mwanawasa's visit was important and would deepen economic cooperation between the two countries.
According to the programme released here, Dr Mwanawasa, upon arrival, would be driven to the Independence Square where he would be accorded military honours and a welcome salutation by the interim governor of Luanda.
Dr Mwanawasa would be expected to lay a wreath at the monument of the first
president of Angola, Dr Antonio Angostinho Neto, before retiring to the Baloon Lane, his official residence during his stay in Angola.
On Tuesday, President Mwanawasa would meet with Angolan President Jose Eduardo Dos Santos at the Presidential Palace where the two leaders are expected to hold private talks.
Thereafter, Dr Mwanawasa would be expected to address the Angolan Parliament.
Tuesday afternoon would be dedicated to the signing ceremony of the prisoner extradition treaty and the MoU after which the President would leave for Benguela province.
In Benguela, Dr Mwanawasa and his entourage that includes Communication and Transport Minister Dora Siliya, Energy Minister Kenneth Konga, and North-Western Province Minister Kenneth Chipungu would visit the garage of the Benguela Railway before returning to Luanda.
According to the programme, Angola's Prime Minister, Fernando Da Piedade Dias Dos Santos, and Speaker of the National Assembly, Roberto Victor De Almeida, would pay a courtesy call on President Mwanawasa.

Dr Mwanawasa would also meet Zambians resident in Angola.
He would be expected back home on Thursday.

A very tiny mistake was found!. Intead of saying "leaves for Angola", in my understanding that should be "leaves to Angola" when it's meant the direction where one is going to and "leaves from Angola" when it's meant the place where one is getting off. I can be wrong, but this is what I have learned and I never heard any Canadian saying "Leaves for a place" I hope you appreciate that. I am just trying to help. Please, don't misinterpret my intention.

Again! My teacher from Australia said to me that that shoud also be "leaves Angola" if you mean that one is going away from a certain place.

Hi. "Leaves for Angola" means that he is on his way to Angola. The article is right.
I guess you meant to say "whether" and not "weather"
