The new Charter of the Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC) adopted unanimously at the end of the 11th Dakar Summit reflects "the Muslim world's new vision" and paves the way for the Islamic organisation's more asserted role at the international level, the OIC secretary-general, Ekmeleddin Ishanoglu, said in Dakar, Friday.

The new OIC charter, which comprises 30 articles, "expresses a strong political will adopted unanimously" in the Dakar meeting, Ekmeleddin Ishanoglu told a press conference jointly held with President Wade.

"This is a historic moment in the OIC's history" and this Charter "is one of the great successes of this Dakar summit," which, according to him, is "a significant step in the history and future" of the Islamic organisation.

"This new Charter represents a new vision of the Muslim world" and "new terms" of cooperation, while putting in order "our house and instilling vigour and dynamism into it."

For Ekemeleddin Ishanoglu, the new OIC Charter "paves the way for our organisation to make it become an international actor recognised" worldwide.

"I wish to say that this summit has been a turning point. It is a really historic summit," the OIC secretary-general said about the Dakar meeting.

"I say so because I have known the OIC since 1980," Ihsanoglu assures, adding, "no summit has been so successful" as that of Dakar.
