The secretary general of the Organisation of Islamic Conference, Turkey's Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, has been re-elected for a five-year term at the head of the Islamic Ummah on the last day of the 11th summit held in Dakar.

Senegalese President Abdoulaye Wade is the chairperson of the Ummah. He was designated on Thursday for a three-year term at the opening ceremony of the summit.

The OIC was created in 1969. Its headquarters are in Djeddah, Saudi Arabia.
