The Organizing Chairman of the much talked-about President Football Cup, Mr. David Kortie, has lauded four major cell phone companies in the country for making a passionate donation in the tone of US $ 21,000.00 for the up keep of the tournament.

In a joyous mood late yesterday at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium (ATS), Chairman Kortie stated that the tournament is gaining momentum to the delight of participating teams and fans that have always been at the S.K. D. Stadium in Paynesville and the ATS on Lynch Street.

Explaining the separate contributions made by the different cell phone entities, he intimated that LIBERCELL donated US $10,000; National Social Security and Welfare Corporation (NASCORP) US $ 5,000.00; the Liberia Petroleum Refining Company (LPRC) US $5,000.00 and COMIUM Liberia US $ 1,000.00.

In an interview with The Inquirer, Mr. kortie called on other companies, mainly Cellcom and the oldest GSM company in Liberia, the Lone Star Cell to throw their weight behind the President Cup by making similar donations so that the tournament can be a real success.

Chairman Kortie added that with the exception of the preceded-named GSM entities, which have identified with the tournament, there are other entities that have since been requested officially by the committee to come to their aid but, are yet to do so.

Because of this, a passionate appeal has been made to all sports enthusiasts to see reason to prevail by helping to promote sports in Liberia.

Speaking further he disclosed that US$ 9,500 cash award to both male and female players of the day partaking in the tournament is gradually being depleted with several males and females winning US$ 50.00 per game.

Meanwhile, Chairman Kortie has commended President Sirleaf and all those who helped to make the tournament to be successful.

Concluding, Mr. Kortie explained that the gesture by the four GSM companies will go a long way as the committee will not hesitate to do advertisement for the four entities as the committee's way of identifying with them.

In a related development, the President Cup special male and female football bonanza continued yesterday at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium (ATS) with Roots (FC) going down to Monrovia Black Stars 1-0.

The player of the day was Sengbeh Kennedy of Black Star who walked away with US $ 50.00 as a reward and motivation.
