The Presidents of the three wings of Fako III CPDM - CPDM, WCPDM and YCPDM - recently began evangelising to grassroots militants, the party's stand on the current constitutional amendment debate and the need for militants to be united on the issue.
Meeting in Buea on March 10, the executive also schooled the militants on the party's components and by-laws and its bid to amend the 1996 Constitution.
The meeting, organised by Charles Mbella Moki, Hannah Etonde Mbua and Emmanuel Mbome Motomby, CPDM, WCPDM and YCPDM Presidents respectively, was necessitated following a national training seminar the party organised for Section Presidents and other top officials in Yaounde.
It comprised representatives of the party at the local level involving Subsection, Branch and Cell Presidents. The Post also learned that the meeting availed the executive the opportunity to meet with the representatives officially, for the first time since the reorganisation of the Section before the July 22 twin elections and for the Secretariat to outline and show militants and party officials the environment to which they will function.
Amongst other things, the militants were told to be united, respect hierarchy and adhere to party discipline, especially with regards to the current debate on the amendment of the Constitution, which the Head of State and National Chairman of the party, President Paul Biya, endorsed.
Also, the local party officials praised grassroots militants for what they term their maturity during the recent nationwide upheaval, as destruction of property was not witnessed in Buea.
The Youth President, Emmanuel Mbome Motomby, talked on the party's constitution and by-laws, the main ruling body, its various organs and how they function. According to Motomby, it was necessary for grassroots militants to be versed with the day-to-day running of the party and how the party is composed, so as to instil unity, order and respect in them.
On her part, the WCPDM Section President presented a paper on the CPDM and the debate on Constitutional amendment arguing that constitutional change should take into consideration the collective will and values of the people and the preservation of that will and values in the various articles of the Constitution. She said the citizens should be well informed as to the value of the Constitution and they should manifest faith in it.
If the Constitution has to be changed, Etonde Mbua said, the debate must be controlled and kept within legal bounds and political unity has to be protected to ensure the integrity of the nation.
The Fako III Executive told The Post that since the party's interest supersedes the individual interest, the Section is united behind the party in its constitutional amendment bid.
However, a few disgruntled participants criticised the Section's elite in Yaounde claiming that they have, more or less, abandoned the Section. They said the elite take decisions in Yaounde without consulting grassroots militants and only impose such decisions on them.

But the Section President, Mbella Moki told The Post that while he could not be indifferent to the worries of disgruntled militants, he would seek to address them with the Prime Minister and other Fako III elite in Yaounde.
