Kano — The Kano State Directorate of Societal Reorientation, otherwise known as A Daidaita Sahu, has called on Muslim and Non-Muslim senators to support the bill against public nudity brought to the Senate by Senator Eme Ufot Ekaette.

A statement in Kano yesterday from the directorate by its director general, Malam Bala Muhammad, said the plea became imperative because of the commendable courage shown by Senator Eme in presenting the bill before the Senate.

The agency explained that the menace of public nudity was a disturbing phenomenon to all religions and cultures in the country, and that it became duty bound upon each and every right thinking senator to back the bill in order to scale through all proceedings and deliberations in the chamber.

"Nudity is a serious social misdemeanor that requires legislative intervention to save Nigerians from the distraction some scantily dressed pose to the society", the statement noted.

The directorate, however, urged senators and other members of the House of Representatives to consider initiating such bill, as the two chambers could do that by regular consultations with their various constituents with a view to finding out what they should give as additional inputs to the bill.

The directorate also advised members of the two chambers to support the bill to its logical conclusion, being that nudity is expressly forbidden by both Islam and Christianity, noting that supporting the bill would reduce immensely the wanton temptation now inherent in society.

"Members of the two chambers should put politics aside and face the reality and ensure that the bill scale through all stages for the betterment of all. Nigerians this time around are in dear need of bills of this nature", he said.
