Botswana: Cop Charged With Incest

Francistown — A local police officer, who allegedly raped his daughter, was nabbed after the girl reported him at his workplace.

The 40-year-old officer (name withheld to protect the minor) was nabbed on March 2 after his 14-year-old secondary-school-going daughter reported the rape. The girl allegedly told the police that her father casually walked into her bedroom and started caressing her before ordering her to accompany him to his bedroom where he raped her.

Since there was no other elder in the house, the girl dared not call for help until the following day, when she reported the incestuous father at the clinic where she had gone under the pretext that she had a headache. The clinic then advised to report the rape at Tati-siding Police station, where her father worked. The alleged molester's wife told The Voice that she was not home when the attack happened. The heavily pregnant woman revealed that the accused man stayed with children while she stayed at Panda where their home is. She, however, revealed that her husband flatly denied the accusation. She said he claimed that on the day in question, he spent the night with another woman and that he came home only in the morning. Gerald Police station commander, Motsholathebe Mothibi, confirmed the case and pointed that the accused was currently in custody at Francistown state prison. "The officer was nabbed after his daughter reported him at the police," said Mothibi, also revealing that the accused officer of the law was facing a charge of incest. He said the man has already been charged before the Francistown magistrate and would appear for mention again next week. Although incest cases were not rife at his station, Mothibi pointed out that it was not the first time to receive such a case.

Coincidently, the accused is also alleged to be the policeman accused of having had an affair with the wife of the Tati siding Anglican lay preacher who committed suicide in the Kutlwano Police cells early this year.
