Liberia: IPDS/CEPD-Liberia Graduate Several in Peace And Development Studies

The Institute for Peace Building and Development Studies (IPDS) and the Center For Peace and Development/CEPD-Liberia graduated over 25 men and women on March 8, 2008 in Peace education.

This institution, which was establish on January 2nd, 2007 as a faith based organization saw the need for manpower development in post war Liberia for healing, rehabilitation, reintegration, reconciliation, reconstruction and transformation. It objectives is to address crucial issues relating to the creation of community peace monitors and observers, provide structures for enhancing peaceful reintegration and co-existence, provide innovative training in advocacy and awareness for community transformation and training leadership principles, peace education, Community development, HIV/AIDS, Counseling and its Application, Proposal Writing, Vision, Strategic Planning and Christian Leadership.

During the ceremony, the graduates were challenge to be wise in their career choice and willing to learn, but warn that they should not follow friends who will mislead them in their choice for study.

"Keep concrete arrangement to remain focus" Mr. Findley noted. He also stressed on national issues touching on individuals in government with duel citizenship which he said was not right for the country. He further said that homegrown professionals are competent and qualified to take position of trust, therefore they too should be try as we all strive to form the government of inclusion based on merit.

Mr. Kangar Findley represented Mr. Dixon P. Gblah; Regional Coordinator of FIND (Foundation for International Dignity) who was selected as the Keynote Speaker for the occasion. He vividly touch on several national issues such as the representation of the Justice of Peace Commission (JPC) in every judicial circle in the republic. He concluded by telling the graduates to put into practice what they acquired from the training.

For his part, the Executive Director of CEPD-Liberia Brother Napoleon T. Carlor challenge the graduates to seriously take what they learn into the community and become peace makers in their respective areas. The program was well attended and planned by the committee.
