Francistown — The five-member Nkgo Ya Setso Cultural Group has released a six-track album known as Joko. The first track, known as Joko is a gospel piece.

This is not surprising because the lead singers in the group are God-fearing members of the Spiritual Healing Church. "Any successful endeavour mankind engages in, are as a result of God's blessing," said one of the lead singers Tebogo Mbaakanyi.

Refilwe Kokoro the other lead singer in the group says the second track Uwe-Uwe is a Sesarwa song sung after a hunting expedition. It is a Tsutsube dance track. The album has popular folklore songs like Sananapo and Senanganyana.

Kgomo Tsa Bogadi is a song about a woman promised marriage by her man. Unfortunately, the potential husband does not have cattle for dowry. Although the woman will not go into marriage without her lover paying the customary bride price, the man's uncles cannot come to their nephew's rescue.

The last song is titled Metshameko and is dedicated to children at play. It talks about common traditional games such as morabaraba and diketo. Nkgo Ya Setso Cultural Group composed all the songs in the album. The album was produced by EM Joe and recorded at Vickale studios in Francistown. Joko album is not a bad product from new comers.

The new kids on the block consist of two females and three males. Besides lead singers Kokoro and Mbaakanyi, the back-up vocalists are Baruntshi Modewa, Mokgosi Bapi and Teddy Kobamelo. The members are all from the notorious Kgaphamadi location.

Mbaakanyi told Showbiz that they have been involved in the music industry since their school days. "We were once involved with local groups such as Ntombo Cultural Troupe and Mophane Traditional Group," said the 22-year-old Mbaakanyi.

Kokoro said that they chose to sing traditional music because they are talented in the genre. She added that they drew their inspiration from popular and established Culture Spears group. "Culture Spears influenced our music," she said.
